The webhost for SpyBot S&D is not working well with MSOEv.6 or MSIEv.6. Is
this a universal problem of crashing or just me?

When I goto the website homepage for SpyBot S&D using the MSIEv.6 the
browser navigation buttons forward and backward are dysfunctional and the
browser begins to crash and freeze up. Also if sending files of suspect
spyware using MSOEv.6, the application becomes dysfunctional and begins to
crash and freeze up. When I leave this website these applications return to
normal operation. Is this unique to me or is this universal problem? The
website/host has online interaction navigation which by-pass the MS
navigation and seems to work well. However, in some cases the user may need
to send suspected files to detections@spybot.info using MSOE and if still on
the hosting website this application will not work.

Use the following newsgroup for questions or problems with IE6
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser
You can also get to the Internet Explorer newsgroups via this web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/default.mspx
There select Internet Explorer
Having a web site open in IE shouldn't affect OE unless either the web
site is monopolizing the CPU utilization (other applications should
also be affected) or monopolizing the Internet connection.

Windows version?
Does this behavior persist if you first reboot into Safe Mode with
Networking?
Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Your analysis is probably correct.
I do not go there very often. This week there were some problems with
definitions and a FP. I noticed the behavior only when either using the MSIE
browser navigation and also MSOE when asked to submit some files. I have
never had that problem with an online web navigation software before.
Usually I can interact as I choose. But not at that website.

I have win98se and the problem only occurred at that website.
Once I leave the website, MS applications work if I close them and return to
myhomepage. It is most likely the website policy to force the user to use
the onsite navigation software.
When first posted this I was in a communiqué with that research group and
was using Hotmail thru MSOEv.6 as client. I have never had that problem
before using the MS applications on a website that happened to have its own
navigation software online.
I have never had to use Hijackthis, but I have read thru many a log in
posts.

I went back again SpyBot S&D homepage and forums and it flat out crashed. I
had to turnoff power and reboot.

I've seen your initial post (and annotated it) but I can't take on your
thread myself. I see lots of (more or less "little") issues in your log and
I'm sure whoever handles your thread will help you get everything sorted.

Yes, I am looking thru each of these annotated points. HJT is a learning
experience for me.
I decided to give UniBlue a chance on the DL's they offer. I have seen them
before, but never tried them. I hope that their reputation is good. As
things tine on in the Internet, these online services will become the
mainstays. So this is a first for me there.

I would NOT run any "Registry cleaner", Jim!
See this thread and then decide for yourself if it's good idea:

Roger...Mark Russinovich is pretty sharp about those things.
I was not able to install on this machine since it is set as a server. I
have used ccleaner before and it makes backups before any fix. I think Mark
says it all; it does nothing to speedup or cleanup. Thanks.
