Hi there, I have recently added another identity to my server and was told to
put the incoming pop3 as pop3.xtra.co.nz port 995 and the outgoing SMTP as
send.xtra.co.nz (use 554?) port 465 and enable SMTP server authentication.

I put the pop3 and SMTP info in and forgot to enter the different ports,
voila i got my mail but couldnt send any. So i went in and put the ports in,
voila couldnt send or receive. Have put the ports back to default and now
get my mail again but when i send get this message:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: Welcome to Snapfish',
Account: 'pop3.xtra.co.nz (1)', Server: 'send.xtra.co.nz', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Any ideas? All help greatly appreciated.

Connections to port 25 are often blocked if they cross over from one
internet
provider's equipment to another's; this helps control spammers. Click on
Tools,
then Accounts, then your email account, then Properties, then Advanced.
Set the Outgoing mail port number as they recommended. Since the Incoming
mail server works as is, you may as well leave its port number whatever it
is
now.

Hey Dave, awesome instructions, sadly they didnt quite do it either, amazing
i know, i got this message after trying all three settings

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was 'momentsintimephotography@xtra.co.nz'.
Subject 'trial', Account: 'pop3.xtra.co.nz (1)', Server: 'smtp.xtra.co.nz',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 Authentication is required to send mail
as ', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

So anyway maybe I'll have to ring that number at the end of the
instructions. Thanx heaps for trying

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

With port 465, the SSL option needs to be enabled.
