Gmail IMAP issue: canfolder cannot be selected

I have a variety of issues using Outlook 2007 with Gmail's IMAP--
basically, not usable (thunderbird and windows live mail work well
however).

This is the worst problem:
When trying to delete an email, I frequently get this message:
The folder 'Inbox' [or other folder name] cannot be selected. This
may be because of a limitation of your IMAP server or the folder may
have been deleted or moved.

I do not have this issue with the other email clients mentioned--only
with Outlook 2007. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Try making the "Root folder path" the string "[Gmail]" and see if that helps
it at all.

Thanks, changing the root folder path does solve that problem (or it may also
have been starting outlook in safe mode).

However, a new problem then appears: the delete function does not work.
Email appears with a strikeout, but on switching to another folder it does
not get deleted (as the settings say it should), but instead the strikeout
line gets removed, and the email is re-instated. I also tried edit, purge,
and the same thing happens: the email does not get deleted, but the strikeout
line disappears and it is no longer flagged for deletion. I don't have this
problem with Windows Live Mail or Thunderbird.

I do have a lot of email on the gmail server, and perhaps that causes
problems for Outlook 2007.

I'll have to set up my copy of Outlook 2007 to reference gmail and see if I
can reproduce.

Thanks. I'd prefer to be able to keep using Outlook, but this is a major
problem.

(In contrast, Windows Live Mail, at least with the configuration I used,
works perfectly on deletes (sends them to trash), so it doesn't look like an
issue with gmail IMAP.)

Well, IMAP doesn't have "Deleted Items", per se, so it's no wonder. Still,
I thought Outlook 2007 allows an automatic purge when you leave the folder.

It's supposed to do an auto-purge (since I have that selected)--now, it does
the reverse, it unmarks items flagged for deletion (an auto-unpurge), at
least with Gmail IMAP. They should just copy the imap code they're using in
WLM--can't one part of MS share with the other part? And WLM could also
borrow a few things from Outlook . . .

I, too, notice odd behavior with gmail. For example, even though I delete
and purge and the messages are removed from the folders they were in and
they show up nowhere else, they still appear in the "All Mail" folder gmail
implements and they can't be purged from there.

Outlook 2007 junk mail issue Running Outlook 2007 SP1. Junk mail is disabled and the application still insists on sending mail that has been identified as "Mark as not junk" back to the junk mail folder. One of the emails in question actually comes from another user within my domain!

OL2002 Calendar Time Zone Issue I have a user's PC that the local settings show GMT -6:00 US & Canada. When I open up Outlook, it shows the same settings under Tools / Options / Calendar Options / Time Zone. However the time displayed in Outlook is always an hour ahead of the PC time.
