I use Win98 SE, OE6 and IE6.

Sometimes when I reply to a post in these forums my reply does not show,
but I know that it has been received in the forum because of references
made to it by other posters. Using 'Test' will not assist me in these
circumstances.

It seems to happen mostly when I send an URL. I give the server plenty
of time to respond.

Any ideas please?

Regards,
Emrys Davies.

My initial post is clearly visible to me so now I will include an URL in
my reply to it to see if that works.

Yes, that also worked so at the moment all seems to be well. Sorry for
the bother.

A number of things can go wrong with news posts that are out of your
control.

When you post a news message, it is initially only available on the news
server that you used. Depending on how busy the news server is, it
might take a few seconds, a few minutes, or a few hours before the
message is available for reading. And only people who use the same news
server can read your post, at that point.

Periodically, the news server contacts one or more other news servers.
It passes on any new posts that it has in public news groups and in turn
receives any new posts that the other servers have. If the received
posts are for a news group that the server carries, the server keeps a
copy. In this fashion, a news post is propagated to other news servers
around the world. This is not entirely reliable. It can take days for
a message to make it to another news server. And many messages
disappear into the Internet bit bucket. If you post 5 messages on news
server "A", posts 1, 2, 4 and 5 might make it to news server "B" and 1,
3 and 4 might make it to news server "C".

And even if you are looking at the "same" news server as the original
post, it might not really be the "same" news server. Larger ISPs and
newsgroup services have banks of news servers. Each time you connect to
the newsgroups you may get a different server from the bank. They are
supposed to be kept in synch so that they have the same news posts, but
it's not unusual for them to get out-of-synch. And so, some people
using the "same" news server may see and reply to posts that others
don't see.

I see 2 replies to my post.

This one$1_1@mk-nntp-2.news.uk.tiscali.com

And one posted yesterday about the same time of day.$1_2@mk-nntp-2.news.uk.tiscali.com

I see that you are posting via Tiscali's news server.

For best results, use the "msnews.microsoft.com" news server for reading
and posting messages regarding help with Microsoft products. This is
the news server that most of the regulars use. You'll get more timely
messages, and miss fewer of them. News messages often take days to
wander from server to server, and often get lost.

To set up an account for MSnews in OE
http://www.insideoe.com/resources/communities.htm#setupmsnews

The "msnews.microsoft.com" news server is free to the public. However,
it only carries newsgroups to support Microsoft products. You'll also
find many newsgroups that your ISP doesn't carry. This server has over
2,000 Microsoft newsgroups.

Just tried "msnews.microsoft.com" and all the posts, including the
missing ones, were present within seconds.
That is a pleasing development and many thanks for your very helpful
deliberations.

Regards,
Emrys Davies.
