Thanks to Mike Santovec for a response on my question how to prevent
messages with blank subject lines. I am having a problem finding how to
construct a rule that says, "When the subject like does NOT contain . . . "
It seems geared toward saying When the subj CONTAINS . . ., block it. Halp!!
am I missing sumthing?

P D;
That's nothing. I re-checked all my Mail Rules. I had one set up to
delete from the server if MY address was NOT in the From line. This stops
Spam like a champ. Unfortunately it stops ALL mail. Unless I would like to
E-mail myself. Smile I hope whoever reads this gets a good kick out of it.
I did.
Well I fixed that little opportunity.
With the number of mistakes I make, I should be qualified as an expert.
Try this: Tools/Message Rules/Mail/New Rule
1)Where the subject line contains specific words.
2)Delete it from the server.
3a) click: Contains specific words
b)type: a
c)click: Add
c1)type: e/add i/add o/add u/add/ y/add
d)click Options
e)click: Message does NOT contain the word(s) below
f)OK your way out
This was an SOB trying to do AND type this e-mail at the same time. Had
to Open/Close so many times I forgot what I was doing half the time.
Anyway the New Rule should read:
Apply this rule after the message arrives.
Where the subject line does NOT contain 'empty'.
Delete it from server.
I think this will work. I just re-read Mike's post. I may have to re-do
this rule and learn the Alphabet Song. A-B-C-D........ I did. Went back
and changed 'empty' to 'a' 'e' 'i' 'o' 'u' ' y'.
It seems to me that setting up mail rules in OE is one of the toughest
computer tasks I've come across.

OE how to block spam with no to or from box

Go to Tools/MessageRules/mail in OE. Click on New and you will see 3
spots to fill out.

1. tick off From and To.
2. tick off Delete and also Stop Processing More Rules.

3. In this box, you will see "contains people" in blue. Click on
that and in the new box type the word "@" without the quotes in it,
and click on Add.

You will now notice that the previously grayed out box for Options is
no longer grayed out. Click on that one and you have a choice of two
there. That the message DOES contain @, or DOES NOT contain @. You want the second
one. Click on that one. Then OK your way back out of there........simple when you
know how .

All the blank snowhite emails, and some of the spam, will end up (in
bold) in your delete box. Once you are comfortable with checking on
that, you could go back and modify #2 to add "mark as read" if you wish.
I prefer it unmarked as I then check to see what landed in my delete
box. Or you can check it off in #2 as "delete off server".

actually I went back to RTFM - there is an "options" button, so I made a
rule - the subject line contains a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h, all the way to the end of
the alphabet. then you Option to say it does NOT contain the previous
string. I did one quick test, and it seemed to work. now if all my mail goes
to delete for the rest of the day, well, I will know it doesn't work so well
.. . . wish me luck

You said it, "simple when you know how".
