After installing the Internet Explorer 6 Update, which
also updates Outlook Express, all of our messages were
deleted from all folders in Outlook. We had version 4 and
updated to version 6. Does anyone know how to recover
these deleted messages from the inbox, sent and deleted
folders?

Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store folder will reveal the location of your
current Identity's store. Write it down.

In Explorer, search for .MBX and .IDX files. These are your OE4 Identity's
files.

Make a temporary folder named C:\Mail, or C:\Temp\Mail, as long as the last
folder is named Mail. Copy the OE4 files (*.idx and *.mbx) into the Mail
folder. Open OE6 and click File | Import | Messages, select OE4 from the
list, then browse to the folder that contains the Mail folder, not the Mail
folder itself (browse to C:\ or to C:\Temp, not to C:\Mail or C:\Temp\Mail).
choose either From Identity (for importing from another Identity on the same
machine) or From Store root directory. You will then have the option to
import all mail folders or only those you select.

If you haven't seen this already, you will shortly. By default OE6 disables
opening attachments. (Don't ask.) Go to Tools>Options>Security>Do not
allow attachments... (uncheck).
