In older versions of OE, autocomplete on the recipient field used to be with
a drop-down box. In OE6, at least as its configured on my PC, it does an
inline autocomplete.

So if I have a Christopher Jones and a Christopher Smith, typing Chr will
only bring up the first match. I have to type in 'Christopher S' to bring up
the second.

Is there a way to switch to drop-down autocomplete?

Thanks

Andy

No. I have the similar situation. I just click the To button and then the
first letter, or two, and then double click on the one I want.

The trouble is, when you do that it only scrolls down to the first match.
You still have to scroll down futher to see the rest of the matches. It's
not the end of the world, just annoying when you are doing a lot of emailing
in a hurry.

Did Microsoft drop the drop-down style for IE6 then? Seems a strange thing
to do.

I can't remember the last time I saw that drop-down box. Probably on my 98SE
years ago.

I know what I suggested isn't perfect, just a little easier IMHO.

You can also alter the display names, like: 1-Christopher Jones, and
2-Christopher Smith. Type 1 and the first choice would auto-complete. Very,
very crude, but.........

What I would do is add nicknames to the contacts. The autocomplete also
searches on that.

I start my nicknames with # just so that they don't match regular names.
You could add nicknames such as #chrisj and #chriss or even #cj and #cs.
