I have been scratching my head about this for the better part of a week, and
despite best efforts, am absolutely flummoxed about how to recreate my old
Outlook 2007 folders & contents.

I have all of the file contents of the old user AppData --> Microsoft -->
Outlook --> Local and --> Roaming folders. Restoring things seems to require
something other than just copying the old .PST file to the new location
(before or after the new install), and I am wondering what else I should
copy, or try.

Bottom line is: Whether I install Outlook Connector before or after I put
the old .PST file back using either a direct file paste or an import, the old
folder structures are not recreated. It's as though the thing simply isn't
importing the old folders, calendar, tasks, etc. etc.

The old account briefly appears in the "Mail Folders" sidebar while I'm in
the middle of working with the last screen of the process under File -->
Import. But as soon as I start importing, the old account totally disappears
from the sidebar again, no matter what Import options I try!

The live.com account, which seems determined to become the default, has none
of the folder structure I need: No calendar subfolder, no tasks subfolder,
etc. So there's no way to manually rebuild the folder tree of the old PST
file and have it import the calendar, tasks, etc.

Would adding a new account to Outlook help? Would a new account include the
missing elements of the old folder structure (with calendar, tasks, etc.) in
it? Would I be able to import the old .PST contents into the new account if I
mimicked the folder structure that the old .PST contains?
1) The create new account options ask for all sorts of configuration info
that I don't particularly need -- my default account was just a set of
totally offline folders, unlinked to any particular account, which is the way
I wanted it.
2) If I do set up a new account mimicking the old folder structure, with
calendar, tasks, etc., what options do you choose under import? What option
for the handling 'duplicates' screen? What option for the 'current folder /
same folder' screen?

The other thing to know is what kind of hell you can get into if you ever
uninstall Outlook Connector. This is one of the more pernicious add-ins, in
case you haven't experienced the loop of errors for yourself. I don't think
it's been amply explained on this forum, and I don't know why the Office team
hasn't fixed this. After uninstalling, here are the various levels of hell,
each displaying a different error.

For giggles:

IF OUTLOOK CONNECTOR IS *AT ANY POINT* UNINSTALLED (regardless of the .PST
file I'm using), OUTLOOK QUITS BEFORE OPENING, WITH THIS ERROR:
1. The Add-in "Outlook Connector Extensions" (msncon32.dll) cannot be loaded
and has been disabled by Outlook. Please contact the Add-in manufacturer for
an update. If no update is available, please uninstall the Add-in.
2. Cannot open your default e-mail folders. An unexpected error has
occurred. MAPI was unable to load the information service msncon32.dll. Be
sure the service is correctly installed and configured.

WHEN KEEPING BOTH OLD .PST & OLD .NST FILE BEFORE INSTALLING OR REINSTALLING
OUTLOOK CONNECTOR, OUTLOOK QUITS BEFORE OPENING, WITH THIS ERROR:
Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.nst cannot be
accessed because it has been configured for use with a different mailbox.

WHEN JUST KEEPING OLD .PST FILE (BEFORE INSTALLING OR REINSTALLING
CONNECTOR), OUTLOOK QUITS BEFORE OPENING, WITH THIS ERROR:
Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.nst is not an
offline folder file.

WHEN TRYING TO SUPPLY JUST THE MSNCON32.DLL file (to the Program Files -->
Common Files --> System --> MSMAPI --> 1033 --> location), OUTLOOK QUITS
BEFORE OPENING, WITH THIS ERROR:
Cannot open your default e-mail folders. [...something... something...]
