Just installed a new cable modem and OE cannot access my hotmail
accounts-but no problem with earthlink or comcast accounts. Also I can get
into hotmail accounts thru MSN.com. I checked and reentered my password. Any

Does this apply?
Authentication fails when you use Outlook or Outlook Express to try to log
on to a HTTP-based mail server if you use Internet Explorer version 7.0:

Most Hotmail problems are "intermittent" in that you can get the messages
using the web. If you cannot get them via the web, then there is some
deeper problem, but you are not alone in having problems getting Hotmail
messages into Outlook Express.
And, FWIW, it's very possible that that capability may soon cease to exist
altogether.

Thanks for your help. I did a system restore to before the new modem
installation and things are back to normal.
I thought that when MSN increased the email capacity it was a sign that
they know the worth of free hotmail users. Are you saying that now they
might mess with the convenience of OE? Why build up our love just to knock
it back down?
Again, Thanks Kevon

Short answer: Security. Using the WebDAV protocol increases the security
risk to a Windows system. In Vista (the next operating system) Hotmail is
only accessed via the web, i.e., either using Windows Live Mail or Windows
Live Mail Desktop. There is no HTTP integration with Windows Mail (the
successor in Vista to Outlook Express).

So I guess I will be buying Vista sometime in the near future. (I am trying
to avoid XP on my laptop just because the laptop is soon for the 3rd world
donation pile.)
Hmmm. How devious. Must buy new operating system to use mail server. Glad I
own MSFT stock.
End. And thanks again, Kevon

1. Make certain your time, date, and /time zone/ settings are correct.
2. IE Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>Edit> type in
hotmail.com
(msn.com)
(passport.net)
and Allow cookies for each domain.

I thank you for your help and have made a note in case this problem
resurfaces. As I posted: system restore took care of the problem for me.
